Frequently asked questions

1️⃣ Tallow / Ingredients

What is tallow and why is it good for the skin?

Tallow is a traditional, nutrient-rich fat that closely mimics the skin’s natural lipids. It is naturally rich in fatty acids that help nourish the skin, support the skin barrier, and lock in moisture—making it especially beneficial for dry, sensitive, or compromised skin.

Where do you source your tallow from?

We source our tallow from trusted, regulated suppliers using grass-fed suet suitable for skincare use. The suet is rendered under carefully controlled conditions to minimise contaminants and ensure consistent quality and purity, resulting in a clean, stable ingredient that is gentle and skin-compatible.

Is your tallow derived from suet?

Yes. Our tallow is derived from suet—the clean, firm fat found around the kidneys—valued for its purity, stability, and suitability for skincare formulations.

Does tallow have a beefy smell?

Refined, skincare-grade suet tallow is high in purity and carefully deodorised, giving it a neutral scent. Rich in natural nutrients like fatty acids and vitamins, it nourishes and supports the skin while any natural aroma dissipates quickly after application.

Why are there differences in colour, texture, or scent?

Since our products are made with natural ingredients, slight variations in colour, texture, or scent can occur between batches. These differences reflect the ingredient’s purity and natural origin and do not compromise the quality, performance, or safety of the product.

Are your products free from preservatives and synthetic additives?

Yes. Our formulations are crafted using natural ingredients and are free from synthetic preservatives and synthetic fragrances. We believe in simple, honest skincare—each ingredient is chosen for its purpose, skin compatibility, and safety.

Are your ingredients halal certified?

We source our ingredients with halal considerations in mind and ensure they meet cleanliness and quality standards suitable for personal care. If you have specific certification questions, feel free to reach out to us directly.

How should I store LOU Alchemy products?

Store your products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Always close the lid tightly after use to maintain freshness and consistency.

What is the shelf life of your products?

Our products are best used within 6 months of opening. We only use Vitamin E oil as a natural preservative, so the products remain fresh without synthetic additives. If the product still looks, smells, and feels good, it is safe to continue using beyond 6 months. To maintain quality, store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

2️⃣ Skin Concerns / Skin Type

Are your products suitable for dry or sensitive skin?

Yes. Our products are designed to nourish, soothe, and support the skin barrier, making them suitable for all skin types, including dry and sensitive skin types.

Can I use tallow-based skincare if I have oily or acne-prone skin?

Yes, when used in moderation. Tallow is highly skin-compatible and non-comedogenic, meaning it does not clog pores. It helps support and balance the skin barrier, which can be beneficial even for oily or acne-prone skin. We recommend starting with a small amount and observing how your skin responds.

Will the products feel greasy on my skin?

No. Our products are lightweight, non-greasy, and fast-absorbing, delivering instant nourishment without feeling heavy on the skin. A little goes a long way, and we recommend starting with a small amount and adjusting as needed.

Are your ingredients safe for sensitive skin?

Our formulations focus on gentle, minimal ingredients chosen for skin compatibility. However, we always recommend patch testing before full use, especially for sensitive skin.

Will your products help with eczema, redness, or irritation?

Yes. Our products are formulated to soothe redness, calm irritation, and support compromised skin barriers, making them especially helpful for dry, sensitive, or eczema-prone skin. While many customers experience noticeable relief, our products are not intended to diagnose or treat medical conditions. For severe or persistent concerns, we recommend consulting a healthcare professional.

Can your skincare be used on both the face and body?

Yes. Our skincare can be used on both the face and body, unless stated otherwise. Our unscented balm and face balm are suitable for use on both, while our scented balms contain essential oils and are recommended for body use only.

Are your products safe for children or babies?

Yes. Our unscented balm is especially suitable for babies and children, as it is free from fragrances and essential oils, formulated with gentle, skin-compatible ingredients, and made from all-natural ingredients. It can also be used as a nappy cream to help soothe diaper rash, calm redness, and protect delicate skin.

Are your products safe to use during pregnancy?

Yes. Our unscented products are suitable for use during pregnancy, as they are made with minimal, all-natural, and skin-compatible ingredients. They help soothe dryness, nourish sensitive areas, and calm stretch marks or cracked skin. As always, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider before use.
